Coalition Urges PRP to Pick Female Deputy Governorship Candidate, Backs Inclusive Leadership

By Ahmed Mohammed

The Bauchi Women Coalition for Women's Inclusion, Equity and Good Governance has called on the People's Redemption Party (PRP) to nominate a female deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.

The coalition appealed to the party's governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, to support the selection of a woman as his running mate, arguing that women and youths constitute the majority of the state's voting population.

In a statement issued in Bauchi and signed by the Coalition's Director of Media and Communication, Hajiya Hajara Musa, the group said women's inclusion in leadership would strengthen governance, promote social development, and ensure that the interests of women, children, youths, and other vulnerable groups are adequately represented in government.

According to the statement, selecting a female deputy governorship candidate would not only demonstrate the party's commitment to equity and inclusion but also serve as a strategic political decision capable of attracting broader public support ahead of the election.

The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women's political participation and declared its support for the emergence of a qualified and competent woman as Deputy Governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections.

It further expressed support for Senator Shehu Buba Umar's governorship aspiration, urging political stakeholders within the PRP to consider choosing an experienced and capable woman as his running mate.

The coalition maintained that such a decision would reflect the principles of inclusive leadership, equity, and good governance while harnessing the wealth of experience and leadership potential of Bauchi women.

The statement added that the Bauchi Women Coalition remains committed to peaceful democratic engagement and will continue advocating for greater participation of women in decision-making processes at all levels of governance.
