Group Rejects Claims Kebbi Is Under Siege By Criminals

The Kebbi Progressive Youths (KEPYO) has dismissed claims that Kebbi State is under siege by criminals, describing the allegation as exaggerated and politically motivated.

The group was reacting to an article titled "Kebbi Under Siege: A Governor Without a Plan," written by Jikan Waziri and published on June 23, 2026.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Comrade Hamisu Sani, KEPYO said the article misrepresented the security situation in the state and ignored the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris to tackle insecurity.

According to the group, the state government has provided more than 100 operational vehicles to security agencies, distributed over 3,000 motorcycles to vigilante groups, and recruited and trained more than 3,000 community vigilantes to strengthen grassroots security.

The group also highlighted the reactivation of Local Government Security Committees, regular security meetings with relevant agencies, and sustained engagement with federal authorities that facilitated the deployment of armoured personnel carriers and other operational assets.

KEPYO further rejected claims that the governor was indifferent to victims of insecurity, citing his visits to affected communities, provision of relief materials, and support for families impacted by attacks. It also credited the administration with playing a key role in securing the release of the abducted Maga schoolgirls through collaboration with federal authorities and security agencies.

The group argued that the article's concluding endorsement of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, for the 2027 governorship election exposed its partisan motive, urging critics to offer constructive engagement rather than what it described as politically driven propaganda.
