APM dismisses reports of Bala Mohammed’s defection to PDP

By Samuel Luka

The Bauchi State Chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Bala Mohammed plans to leave the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the platform that brought him to power in 2019.

In a rejoinder issued Monday, APM Publicity Secretary Abdulshakur Danlami described the claim as “malicious, mischievous and uncalled-for.”

Danlami said the governor became a card-carrying member of APM on May 2, 2026 and has remained active in the party since then.

He added that Gov. Mohammed also secured the APM senatorial ticket for Bauchi South.

“His decision to join APM followed wide consultations and was based on the collective interest of Bauchi citizens. That commitment remains unchanged,” Danlami stated.

He further said the governor is not the type of politician who jumps from one party to another, adding that he moves with his political base and structure.

Danlami urged Nigerians, especially the people of Bauchi state to disregard the defection rumour, saying “nothing is cooking except cassava.”

The APM leadership, he said, “condemns in unequivocal terms” any suggestion of defection and called on party members to remain calm.

He urged them to stay focused on mobilizing for the party, noting that victory is around the corner.

The rejoinder comes amid renewed speculation in political circles over possible realignments ahead of future elections in the state.

APM in Bauchi insists the party remains intact under Sen. Mohammed’s leadership.
