A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State and Special Adviser to the Ambassador of the North East Renewed Hope Agenda, Alhaji Salisu Ahmed Barau, has restated the core objectives of the initiative.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday in Bauchi, Barau, who also serves as spokesperson for the North East Agenda under the coordination of former Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, said the platform was created to strengthen communication between government and citizens across the region.
He said the initiative is aimed at deepening citizens’ understanding of federal government policies and bringing governance closer to the grassroots.
The chieftain explained that the initiative aligns with the broader communication strategy of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Barau stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda is structured around key reform pillars designed to drive national development between 2023 and 2027, including economic recovery, security enhancement, agricultural transformation, infrastructure expansion, and improved governance delivery.
He expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his administration is pursuing far-reaching reforms aimed at restructuring governance and improving efficiency.
According to him, one of the cardinal principles of the agenda is decentralisation, which he said is already yielding results through the Supreme Court’s affirmation of local government financial autonomy.
He explained that this development would enable local governments to receive allocations directly, without interference from state-level administration.
Barau also pointed to ongoing tax reform efforts, arguing that once fully implemented, they would improve revenue generation and strengthen public service delivery.
He further described the reforms as part of a broader effort to reposition Nigeria’s economy and governance structure.
On national security, he maintained that insecurity remains a nationwide concern and should not be attributed to any single region, stressing the need for collaboration between citizens and security agencies to address banditry and kidnapping.
He added that while drawing comparisons with previous administrations, including that of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the current administration is making renewed efforts to stabilise the economy and expand development initiatives.
Barau urged stakeholders in the North East to support developmental policies and focus on governance-driven solutions, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda remains committed to ensuring that government programmes reach communities, students, and voters for informed civic participation and national development.
He said the initiative aimed at deepening citizens’ understanding of federal government policies and bringing governance closer to the grassroots.
