A 50-year-old man in Bulkachuwa, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State has been arrested for having sexual intercourse with a 9-year-old girl selling soya bean cake locally known as ‘awara’.
The suspect was accused of committing the crime in mid June and was reported to the Bulkachuwa Division on 15th June, 2026.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib said that the Police received the report at Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters, on 15th June, 2026 at about 5pm. “The complainant, a resident of Bulkachuwa reported that one Muhammadu Audu of the same address lured his 9-year-old daughter, while she was hawking soya bean cake.
“The suspect allegedly took the minor to an uncompleted building with the pretext of buying from her, and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her. As a result, the victim sustained injuries on her private part.”
Nafiu said that during Police interrogation of the suspect, he confessed to have committed the crime more than once and also admitted that he threatened to kill the victim with a knife if she disclosed the matter to her parents.
“The victim was immediately taken to the Primary Health Care Centre, Bulkachuwa, for medical examination and treatment. The suspect was apprehended and is currently in custody.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani Omolori ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He condemned the act, saying that the Command’s zero tolerance for sexual violence and crimes against children remains.
