Sheikh Rijiyar Lemu Demands Immediate Crackdown on Kano's Yan Daba

By Bashir Hassan Abubakar

In a sobering reminder of divine accountability, renowned Kano-based international Islamic scholar, Professor Muhammad Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemu, has condemned the recurring bloodshed and rampant thuggery plaguing Kano State

He declared the ongoing destruction of innocent lives as sacrilegious—a grave transgression against the Almighty, carrying a weight of divine punishment on the Day of Judgment that no human mind can fully quantify.

Delivering a message during his weekly radio and television questions and answers program, “Fatawowin Rahma,” the cleric wept for the soul of the state.

He lamented that Kano, historically celebrated as a shining cradle of Islamic excellence, vibrant commerce, and peaceful coexistence, is steadily degenerating into a lawless wasteland. It has become a place, he warned, where the lives of innocent citizens are snuffed out with absolute impunity, while the perpetrators walk free from earthly justice.

Professor Rijiyar Lemu spared no words in decrying the terror unleashed by the dreaded Yan Daba (thugs). He exposed how these youths are weaponized by unscrupulous elements to orchestrate mayhem, cut down innocent lives, and plunder the hard-earned wealth of citizens.

Turning his gaze directly to the political class, the scholar issued a stern, prophetic warning:

"Fear Allah! Stop using these young souls as instruments of murder and destruction."

He fiercely exposed the sinister reality of politicians who recruit these thugs as henchmen, fueling them with illicit drugs to cloud their minds before sending them out to execute nefarious agendas. No politician, no leader, and no individual, the cleric thundered, has the right to take a life, loot property, or destroy the livelihood of another.

To back his assertions, the cleric drew heavily from the divine verses of the Holy Quran and the sacred traditions of the Prophet (Hadith), explicitly detailing the severe, eternal wrath that Allah promises for murderers and oppressors.

While reminding the public that Islamic preachers will never silence their pulpits in exposing these evils, he stressed that preaching alone is not enough. He called upon those in authority to wake up to their divine and constitutional responsibilities before the societal decay consumes everyone.

The scholar urged the government to act swiftly to dismantle the Yan Daba menace through genuine rehabilitation, reintegration, and the creation of meaningful jobs.

The alarming rate of killings, he concluded, is a collective emergency that demands every citizen play their role before the wrath of societal collapse catches up with all.
