A philanthropist and grassroots politician, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo, has emerged as the senatorial candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the Bauchi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Dabo, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, clinched the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement during the PDP senatorial congress held in Bauchi.
The exercise attracted a large turnout of party supporters, stakeholders, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and representatives from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
His emergence followed consultations among party leaders and stakeholders across the seven local government areas of Bauchi South, after which the congress committee officially affirmed him as the consensus candidate in line with party guidelines and provisions of the Electoral Act.
The development has added fresh momentum to the race for the Bauchi South Senate seat, where Dr. Dabo is expected to face incumbent Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), alongside Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi of the APC and Garba Dahiru Salanken Bauchi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Also present at the congress were PDP aspirants for the Bauchi State House of Assembly, party delegates from the seven local government areas, officials of the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies.
Dr. Dabo is the founder of the Danjuma Dabo Foundation, a philanthropic organisation known for providing free education support to indigent students and orphans in Bauchi State. He previously contested for the senatorial seat under the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
He also served as Executive Director at Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and as National Implementation Adviser to the World Bank-supported Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Dr. Dabo described the nomination as a victory for democracy, unity, and collective commitment to the development of Bauchi South.
According to him, his ambition is driven by a desire to integrate the district into the digital economy, empower youths with functional and global skills, and support farmers to transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture.
He pledged to run an issue-based and peaceful campaign ahead of the 2027 elections while calling on stakeholders across the district to support his vision for quality representation at the National Assembly.
