... Says He Is on a "Rescue Mission" to Salvage Taraba
WUKARI — A frontline gubernatorial aspirant and renowned philanthropist, Chief David Sabo Kente, has declared that he will serve only a single term if elected Governor of Taraba State in 2027.
Kente pledged to hand over power to another zone at the expiration of a four-year tenure in 2031.
Kente, who was welcomed by a massive crowd of jubilant supporters in Wukari after completing his All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial screening, stated that he entered the race on a rescue mission to save the state from failed promises.
Addressing the sea of well-wishers, Kente expressed deep concern over what he described as three years of stagnation since 2023.
While acknowledging the initial optimism that followed the last election, he argued that the current administration has failed to meet the yearnings of the people.
Kente said. “My decision to run is born out of intense pressure from APC stakeholders and leaders of thought across all 16 local government areas who believe Taraba deserves better.”
Kente also emphasized his commitment to the informal zoning arrangement in Taraba.
He pledged that his administration would serve only four years to complete the Southern Zone’s turn and would facilitate a smooth transition to a candidate from either the Northern or Central zone by 2031.
Kente thereafter expressed absolute confidence in clinching the APC ticket during the primary election, despite the incumbent Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, also seeking reelection.
He also issued a stern warning regarding the state government’s recent appointment of several Special Advisers, some of whom are known Kente loyalists.
He dismissed these appointments as a calculated political ploy intended to buy loyalty and create division within his camp as the primaries approached.
He noted that the move is a sign of desperation. He also encouraged his party faithfuls and his supporters to "keep your hope alive, come out in your numbers, and let us secure the flag of our party to bring real change to Taraba."
