Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has formally declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship in 2027 under the All Progressives Congress, pledging improved management of state resources if elected.
Addressing a large crowd in Magama Gumau town, Toro Local Government Area, over the weekend, Buba said his decision followed a seven-year review of the People’s Democratic Party-led administration in the state.
“In accepting the task to run for governor of our dear state, we have closely monitored the stewardship of the PDP government over the past seven years,” Buba said.
“Given the huge revenue and other resources made available to the government, we are convinced we can do better,” he added.
The senator said his team has compiled verifiable data on allocations received by the state government, along with an independent expert analysis of executed projects and their costs.
“Naturally and objectively, these findings have raised valid questions, and we are going to ask the right questions,” he added.
Describing his bid as part of a broader push for good governance, Buba told supporters: “For the sake of our people, the struggle to reclaim Bauchi and usher in a new era of better governance has just started.”
He promised to unveil a knowledge and information-driven blueprint in the coming weeks, outlining the state’s current position, its potential, and a multi-sectoral plan to achieve it.
“Reading through the blueprint, any doubt about our readiness to get it right for Bauchi will be fully erased,” he said.
Quoting the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, Buba added: “‘Tell the truth about us, tell us the truth about others.’ The truth is there is no alternative to working hard, and even harder, to realize the lofty dream of our founding fathers. Bauchi has to be great again.”
Buba said his performance in Bauchi South demonstrates what can be achieved statewide under the APC.
“Given the dividends of democracy being experienced in Bauchi South, which are evident to all, we shall replicate the same across Bauchi State if given the mandate.” The Senator promised.
