The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has terminated the appointment of Aminu Abdullahi, a reckless driver, attached to Ministry of Higher Education, who crashed a vehicle conveying 13 journalists last February where two media practitioners lost their lives.
Abdullahi drove the journalists covering the project inspection and handover to Bauchi State Government on Friday 6th February, by the North EastDevelopmentCommission (NEDC). While in a convoy, Abdullahi engaged in deadly speeding while overtaking a convoy of over 20 vehicles. He crashed the vehicle with the 13 journalists on board. Several of them sustained injuries while two later succumbed to the injuries.
Governor Bala Mohammed had ordered his disengagement from the service.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Civil Service Commission said it also found him guilty of “misconduct”.
The Commission's resolutions were reached during its 13th plenary session held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
A statement from the Commission disclosed that Abdullahi, a Clerical Assistant on Grade Level 03 with the State Ministry of Higher Education, Abdullahi, was dismissed following an incident of negligence while performing an assigned duty.
“His actions were found to be in violation of Rules 0312 and 0327 of the Bauchi State Public Service Regulations. Abdullahi had been assigned to undertake “Any Other Duty,” which included driving a team of journalists covering activities of the North East Development Commission during a project commissioning in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
“However, he reportedly engaged in reckless driving, leading to an accident involving more than 10 journalists. The incident resulted in the death of two persons, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
The Commission said the decision to terminate his appointment followed recommendations from the Ministry of Higher Education, as well as resolutions of the State Executive Council on the disciplinary matter.
The Commission queried the management of the Ministry of Higher Education, demanding an explanation as to why a Clerical Assistant was assigned duties meant for a professional driver.
Meanwhile, as part of its routine activities, the Commission approved the conversion of 10 officers across various cadres.
