Immediate past Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.
Abubakar said the move underscores his commitment to the party’s laid-down procedures and internal democratic principles.
According to him, “This step reflects my disciplined adherence to the party’s established processes and my unwavering belief in the internal democratic mechanisms of the APC.”
He stated that while the party is yet to officially decide on its mode of primary election, he supports the consensus option as the preferred method for selecting the governorship candidate.
“As majority of APC stakeholders have suggested, I fully align with the party’s official position on the adoption of either consensus or direct primaries. However, I strongly believe the consensus method will help promote internal unity, minimise the high costs and logistical challenges associated with direct primaries, and reduce the risk of litigation and defections by aggrieved aspirants,” he said.
Abubakar urged other aspirants to unite behind a single candidate, stressing that consensus would help prevent factional divisions after the primaries and strengthen the party ahead of the general election.
“I am confident that this approach will further deepen participatory democracy, strengthen party cohesion, and give every member a sense of ownership in the emergence of candidates,” he added.
The former governor also reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership at both national and state levels.
“I reaffirm my profound respect, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the National Leader of the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
“I equally extend my highest regards to the leadership of the party in Bauchi State, its distinguished elders, and all recognised leaders whose guidance continues to shape the progressive ideals of the APC,” he said.
Abubakar appreciated party stakeholders and supporters for their continued backing, pledging to consolidate on legacy projects if elected as the next governor of Bauchi State in 2027.
