Sa'adu Zungur University Charges Students to Prioritise Education

By Monday Danladi

Students of Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU) have been charged to regard education as a serious business that must be pursued with commitment in order to succeed academically.

The charge was given by the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Musa Adamu Wunti, while declaring open a one-day orientation programme for newly matriculated students held on Friday at the Yuli Campus.

According to him, the orientation was necessary to expose the students to the dos and don’ts of the university system.

“The orientation is a necessary thing which will expose you to the dos and don’ts of the university. You need to be told what you must do and what you must not do in order to achieve the set objectives of your coming here,” he said.

Prof. Wunti warned the students to shun anti-social vices prohibited by the university management, stressing that SAZU does not condone cultism and other behaviours capable of bringing the institution into disrepute.

He reminded them that their matriculation marked the beginning of their academic journey and emphasised that university education requires serious commitment.

“We give the brief to you on two important things: one, for character; two, for academic excellence,” he stated.

He further stressed that students were expected to demonstrate good character and uphold the values instilled in them by their parents before gaining admission into the institution.

The Dean assured them that the orientation would guide them on the workings, regulations and rules governing the university, particularly examination procedures and career development.

He noted that contributions from representatives of the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) would further enlighten them on issues relating to drug abuse.

In his remarks, the Registrar, AG Hassan, urged the students to strictly adhere to the university’s rules and regulations to ensure a successful academic journey and commendable results at graduation.

He reminded them of the oath they recently took during matriculation and encouraged them to abide by its contents throughout their stay in the university.

The Registrar also advised the students to familiarise themselves with the Registry, describing it as the gateway into and out of the university.

Presentations at the orientation covered examination malpractice, dangers of illicit drugs, campus relationships and other academic matters.
