NEDC hands over Mega Secondary School to Bauchi govt.


The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has handed over the newly constructed Mega Secondary School to the Bauchi state government on Thursday.

Speaking during the inauguration and handing over of the project, Alh. Uba Ahmadu, the Minister of State for Regional Development, said the project was carried out by the NEDC in collaboration with the ministry.

The project, he said, was in alignment with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in transforming education in the country.

He added that the ministry has also embarked on an education programme targeted at identifying schools in deplorable conditions, taking them to where they were at the inception and handing them over to the authorities.
“This particular facility is a brand new one, not refurbished but was built from scratch and we are confident that after you commission the project and it is handed over to the government, it will be managed very well,” he said.

Also, Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director of NEDC, explained that the school consists of four blocks of 12 classrooms, four units of two bedroom staff quarters, five offices administration block, commercial center, fence and gatehouse.

“Today, we are transferring the ownership of this facility to the state government and we are doing three of these projects in Bauchi state while we are doing the same thing in other five Northeastern states.

“So, we are building 18 mega schools of similar structure in these states,” he said.
Receiving the project, Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state who was represented by his Deputy, Alh. Auwal Jatau, appreciated the NEDC for executing the project.

Mohammed, who promised that the school would be effectively maintained, prayed that the school be a source of educational and holistic development not only to the people of the state, the Northeast but to the people of Nigeria at large.

Similarly, the Commission also officially inaugurated and handed over an Emergency Medicine Complex constructed in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi to the state government.

The complex consists of 20-bed capacity triage hall, four bed capacity resuscitation rooms, 20-bed capacity Male and female 
ward, six bed capacity Male and female isolation rooms, three offices, laboratory and nursing station.

NEDC was also in the state to commission its newly constructed office which consists of four offices, Kitchen, One conference
hall, one Board room, state coordinator's 
office, surveillance room and four offices as workstations
