Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has praised the Nigerian Army for its sustained commitment to internal security, applauding officers and soldiers for their professionalism, resilience, and sacrifices in maintaining peace across the state.
The governor gave the commendation on Saturday during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) ceremony held at the Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi, and organised by the 33 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
Represented by the State Chief Security Adviser, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Sani Mohammed, the governor described WASA as a cherished military tradition that fosters unity, discipline, and camaraderie among officers, soldiers, and their families.
He noted that the annual event also serves as a platform for strengthening civil-military relations while boosting the morale of troops.
Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies operating in Bauchi State, stressing that peace and security remain top priorities of his government. According to him, a secure environment is critical for socio-economic development and the wellbeing of citizens.
He specifically commended the 33 Brigade for its vital role in maintaining law and order across the state, urging officers and men to remain focused, resilient, and patriotic in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
Earlier in his remarks, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Uchechukwu Godwin Simon, assured residents of Bauchi State of the Nigerian Army’s continued resolve to sustain peace and security.
He emphasised that addressing security challenges requires collective responsibility and strong collaboration between security agencies and the public.
“Tackling the security situation requires the support and cooperation of everyone. While we will not relent in our efforts, the assistance of the public is crucial in ridding the state of criminals,” the commander said.
Brigadier-General Simon described WASA as a significant tradition that celebrates the Nigerian Army’s shared identity, cultural heritage, and collective achievements.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, for their consistent support and leadership.
WASA highlights of the event included colourful cultural displays, a tug-of-war competition, presentation of awards to outstanding personnel, and the ceremonial lowering of flags to mark the end of the year’s activities.
The ceremony concluded with a bonfire, symbolising unity and strengthening the bond of brotherhood among officers and soldiers.
