The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has hailed the appointment of its member, Comrade Dunijir Gatama, as Gombe State coordinator of the City Boy Movement, describing it as "politically strategic".
The City Boy Movement was established in 2022 as a youth-driven support group for Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his campaign to become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The organisation after the election was retained to mobilise, educate, and empower Nigerian youths and women in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by creating widespread awareness on government achievements, fostering policy understanding, and building a formidable grassroots coalition in all the states to support the administration.
In a statement signed by Comrade Muazu Hina, on behalf of NANS senate, and issued to our correspondent on Monday, the association praised Comrade Gatama as a "fearless advocate of students' rights" and a "dependable force within the youth and political space".
"NANS is confident that this appointment will further strengthen political consciousness among young Nigerians and deepen grassroots participation in nation-building," the statement read.
The association urged students and youth nationwide to rally behind Comrade Gatama, saying his experience and leadership skills make him a valuable asset to the City Boy Movement.
"This appointment is timely, deliberate, and politically strategic, coming at a critical moment when purposeful youth engagement, ideological direction, and effective grassroots mobilisation are required to consolidate progressive movements across the country.
"Comrade Gatama has, over the years, distinguished himself as a fearless advocate of students’ rights and a dependable force within the youth and political space.
"Having served in various leadership and organisational capacities within both the student and youth movements, Comrade Dunijir Gatama has consistently demonstrated political maturity, loyalty to progressive ideals, and an exceptional capacity for mass mobilisation. His experience on the streets, in campuses, and within organised youth structures positions him as a valuable asset to the City Boy Movement", he said.
