Group to honour Gombe self-taught innovator, 16 others for driving development

By Rauf Oyewole

A development driven organisation known as "Me kayi? Me za kayi wa al’uma?” (What have you done? What will you do for society?”) has identified a 73-yr-old man Hadi Usman, who had never been into a former education but invented over 78 technologies and now lectures in university.

Hadi, who bagged honourary Doctor of Philosophy in 2023 from Gombe State University, was born in Azare, Katagum local government area of Bauchi State in 1953 before moving to Gombe. Hadi invented technologies and innovations.

Speaking during a chat with the media on Monday, the leader of the group, Ilyasu Ibrahim Zwall said that the aim was to foster both individual responsibility and collective synergy in driving development and encourage the people who selflessly contributed to their society.

According to Zwall, the organisation’s journey began from a place of deep concern and observed a persistent and growing divide between leadership and the everyday citizen, a gap that often seems to narrow only during election cycles. “We witnessed communities struggling in silence and governance feeling like a distant, inaccessible concept.”

He said that the people deserve quality representation and a chance to be heard adequately. He lamented widening gaps between the haves and the have-nots, while applauding those who reach out to the less privileged people in the society.

He explained that the organisation had held its board meeting and identified some individuals who should be encouraged for their contributions to the society.

Zwall said that the organisation is honouring different categories such as; youth empowerment, technology and innovation, scholarship, infrastructure, energy and entrepreneurship, education, health and religious development among others.

He mentioned the awardees to include: Minister of Health and Social Welfare; Prof. Ali Pate, a philanthropist Nura Manu Soro, Hon. Mohammed Garba Gololo, Hon. Kani-Faggo, Alh. Muntaqa Dugur, Shamsuddeen Bala Muhammed, Yakubu Dogara, Sen. Shehu Buba, Dr. Bala Wunti, Hon. Shehu Aliyu Musa.

Others are; the Vice Chancellor of the Sa'adu Zungur University, Prof. Fatima Tahir, Barr. Saratul Jibrin, Mrs. Lydia Shehu, Alh AYM Shafa and Development Exchange Centre (DEC).
