Bauchi State Government has received donation of Hospital and medical equipments worth several Millions of US Dollars from a USA based health organisation, World Medical Relief.
The equipment donated and received included those for patients care, nutrition treatment, electronic beds and wheelchairs, delivery components and others.
While receiving the equipment at the Central store of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Bauchi on Friday, the Commissioner, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, expressed gratitude to the organisation for the kind gesture which he said will further boost the State’s health sector.
According to him, "So we are here at the store. And we are looking at the consignment delivered to us. These are part of the donated medical equipment by the World Medical Relief, which is a U.S.-based organization, which was facilitated by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in which he visited the center last year."
He added that, "And to God be the Glory, we have started receiving the consignments. And this is one container that have arrived, while the remaining four are on their way from Lagos seaport."
He stressed that, "However, there are also other five containers, which are still at the United States of America and they are on their way to Nigeria and ultimately to Bauchi."
The Commissioner added that, "And as you can see, these are modern, latest hospital equipment, which are very qualitative, which are very useful, which are also very expensive."
He added that, "Thanks to His Excellency, the people's Governor, who facilitated it. He has facilitated the donation of this material free of charge to the good people of Bauchi State."
Asked what the development means for the health sector of Bauchi State, Sani Mohammed Dambam said that,"Yeah, it means a lot. It's a booster to the health system. Already, we have been receiving topmost priority of His Excellency's policy and attention since the inception of this government."
He stressed that, "And as you are aware, we have been renovating the health facilities across the State, and they have also been equipped. So this will add to the equipment that we have been having in our health facilities."
According to him, "Since from the tertiary health facility, which is owned by the State, that is the State Specialist Hospital, to the Secondary Health facilities and even primary healthcare centres. Some of them will benefit from this intervention."
On the issue of keeping such equipment in the store without utilising them, he gave assurance that it is going to be a different thing considering that the equipment are needed urgently in all the health facilities across the State.
He assured that, "Yes, thank you very much. As you are aware, we are trying to now store them, protect them. Then once we received the complete list of assignment, then we will distribute them across the health facilities from the state specialist hospital to the all the 27 General Hospitals, then some of the primary healthcare centres will also be considered.
"So as soon as we have needs for them in any of the facilities, we will immediately mobilize there because they are for use, not for storing," he assured
The Commissioner stressed that, "And now that we have received all of them, we will distribute, or alternatively, as the need to use them arises, we can start distributing them."
