Preparations for the fourth edition of the Bauchi State Sports Festival have gained momentum as sports officers from the 20 local government areas have been urged to produce disciplined, talented and hardworking athletes for the week-long competition scheduled to hold from December 13 to 20, 2025.
The call was made by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Adamu Babayo Gabarin, while addressing sports officers during a seminar organised by the ministry in collaboration with the State Sports Council. The commissioner, represented by the overseeing Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, said all necessary arrangements, medical, security, transportation and other logistics had been concluded to ensure a hitch-free festival.
He tasked the sports officers to present well-trained and competition-ready athletes who can distinguish themselves during the festival and possibly represent the state at zonal and national championships.
According to Gabarin, the primary aim of the festival is to discover raw sporting talents across the 20 LGAs and develop them for future competitions. He warned that the ministry would not tolerate any form of malpractice, stressing that “the era of cheating and bringing machines has gone,” and called on officials to be fair and transparent in officiating.
The commissioner further revealed that the state government has mapped out plans to upgrade and construct new sports facilities across all local government areas as part of efforts to boost sports development and youth engagement.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Technical at the Bauchi State Sports Council, Coach Bala Magaji Juwara, said the seminar was designed to educate and mobilise sports officers on new rules and technicalities guiding the games during the festival.
Similarly, the Head of Planning, Salisu Garba, noted that the engagement would enable sports administrators to gather accurate data on outstanding athletes across the LGAs for future development programmes.
Responding on behalf of the sports officers, Abdulmalik Aminu from Bauchi Local Government appreciated the ministry for organising the training. He pledged that the knowledge gained would be shared with colleagues at the grassroots to enhance preparation ahead of the festival.
More than 12 sporting events featuring both male and female categories including athletics, gymnastics, badminton, football, handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, cycling, kokawa and dambe will be contested during the festival.
The Bauchi State Sports Festival, now in its fourth edition, remains the state’s biggest multi-sports event aimed at nurturing young talents and strengthening unity through sports.
