UNICEF, ASHH Foundation Strengthen Parenting Capacity Across Bauchi Communities

By Bashir Hassan Abubakar

A women-led civil society organization, Attah Sisters Helping Hand (ASHH) Foundation, has concluded a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on Positive Parenting in Bauchi.

The training, supported by UNICEF Nigeria, was designed to equip 32 selected facilitators with practical knowledge and skills to promote positive parenting practices and enhance the wellbeing of children across 32 communities in Bauchi, Darazo, Dass, and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.

During the sessions, participants engaged in interactive modules covering key themes such as Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships, Quality Time Together, Talking About Feelings, and Responding to Crisis, using the UNICEF Positive Parenting Manual as a guide.

The Executive Director of ASHH Foundation, Ms. Comfort Attah, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to strengthening families as a foundation for child protection and social development.

She noted that empowering local trainers with parenting knowledge is a strategic step toward building safer and more nurturing communities for every child.

UNICEF Facilitator, Pragna Chakma, underscored the importance of understanding children’s emotions, noting that many parents unintentionally ignore or misinterpret their children’s feelings, which can lead to emotional isolation. She stressed that helping children express their feelings positively contributes to emotional stability and family harmony.

One of the participants, Safiyanu from Darazo, described the training as “insightful and transformative,” pledging to replicate the lessons learned among parents and caregivers in his community.

The event concluded with a collective call to action for families to promote love, understanding, and respect within homes and to continue championing the rights and wellbeing of children across Bauchi State.
