Senator Shehu Buba Commended For Supporting Peace-Building Efforts

By Khalid Idris Doya

The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament, popularly known as Majlis-Shura, has urged Muslim faithful to give full support to ongoing efforts aimed at addressing insecurity that continues to claim lives and destroy property across Nigeria.

The call was made by the organising secretary of the Parliament, Alhaji Yahaya Tanimu, during a one-day workshop on leadership and good governance for Imams, Islamic scholars, religious organisations, and other stakeholders, held at the Bauchi Central Mosque Conference Hall yesterday.

Tanimu explained that the Muslim Parliament is committed to fostering peaceful coexistence and unity, stressing the importance of collective efforts in tackling insecurity challenges such as banditry and kidnapping in Northern Nigeria.

He lamented that the absence of an effective security structure has worsened the plight of communities, leaving many vulnerable.

He also disclosed that the office of the Chairman Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence, Senator Shehu Buba Umar has shown strong support for the initiative, recognising its value in promoting peace and strengthening national security.

The Parliament commended Buba for his proactive steps towards improving peace and stability in the country.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Muslim Parliament, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Jahun, explained that the workshop was designed to equip participants with the knowledge to preach the significance of conflict resolution in Islam and the need for unity among communities.

Participants, drawn from all 20 local government areas of Bauchi State, pledged to put the knowledge gained into practice and extend it to their respective communities in order to promote lasting peace and harmony.
