In the rural heartlands of Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, a quiet but powerful transformation is underway—one that’s not just reshaping landscapes but saving lives. Thanks to the bold infrastructure drive of Governor Bala Mohammed, communities long cut off from essential services are now witnessing a new dawn.
Roads That Rescue: Infrastructure Meets Humanity
For over four decades, residents of Toro LGA pleaded for access roads to connect their villages to healthcare centers, markets, and schools. Their cries were finally answered with the construction of eight major roads, including: Mararraban Ganyen – Jajuwal Gwalfada Bakin Kogi
Magama – Rahama
Rishi – Tulu
Geljule – Lane
Rimin Zayam – Dass
Durum – Nahutan Tabs
Nabordo and Rimin Zayam township roads
These roads have become lifelines. Mr. Samila Jauro, speaking on behalf of the community, shared a heartbreaking reality: over 50 pregnant women and their unborn children had died due to delays in accessing healthcare caused by impassable roads. Today, those tragedies are being prevented.
“The present administration has changed our lives through its infrastructural development,” Jauro said.
Economic Revival and Social Impact
Beyond healthcare, the roads have unlocked economic opportunities. Farmers now transport their produce with ease, boosting local trade and reducing losses. Businesses are thriving, and communities once isolated are now part of a growing regional economy.
The 40.5-kilometer road network, awarded in 2023, is already 75% complete. Site Engineer Ado Shehu confirmed that some portions are finished, while others are nearing completion—well ahead of the 36-month contract timeline.
A Holistic Development Agenda
Governor Bala’s vision extends beyond roads. According to Toro LGA Chairman, Pharmacy Ibrahim Abubakar Demo, the administration has: Upgraded the General Hospital in Toro Constructed a new General Hospital in Gumau
Rehabilitated primary health centers in all wards Renovated and expanded primary and secondary schools Built new classroom blocks across the LGA.
Rebuilt four district palaces to strengthen grassroots governance. Launched projects in water supply, rural electrification, and social amenities. Transparency and Public Engagement.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Usman Shehu Usman, led journalists on a facility tour to showcase these achievements. He emphasized that the inspection aligns with the government’s commitment to transparency and public awareness.
“Governor Bala remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy across all local government areas,” Usman said. The tour is part of a broader initiative to visit all 20 LGAs in Bauchi State, ensuring citizens are informed and engaged in the development process.
In Toro, the story of development is no longer one of neglect but of renewal. Roads are saving lives, hospitals are healing communities, and schools are shaping futures. Governor Bala Mohammed’s people-centered approach proves that when infrastructure meets empathy, transformation is inevitable.
