A Northeast-based political pressure group, the North East Youth Ambassadors, has strongly condemned a Bauchi State governorship aspirant for allegedly sponsoring a malicious social media campaign aimed at discrediting Senator Shehu Buba Umar.
In a statement, the group’s Secretary-General, Mallam Bana Muhammad, described the act as “cowardly and ridiculous,” stressing that no serious aspirant should rely on tarnishing opponents to win public support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Muhammad was reacting to a viral video shared online by an aide of one of Senator Buba’s rivals, which he dismissed as fake and deliberately crafted to ridicule the lawmaker.
“Why hide under a mask to perpetrate such an atrocity? If he truly has political weight, let him come out boldly instead of hiding behind faceless smear campaigns,” Muhammad said.
He further noted that genuine leaders should demonstrate courage, integrity, and responsibility, rather than resorting to what he termed “political stupidity and cowardice.”
The youth leader also questioned whether the politician in question was acting on his own or being used as a proxy, insisting that leadership should reflect service to the people rather than self-interest or external manipulation.
“We urge all aspirants to pursue their ambitions with dignity. Politics should be about building, not destroying. It is better to leap before you jump,” Muhammad cautioned.
