Bauchi communities pledge to promote clean water, hygiene society

By Beatrice Gondyi

The Chongsquare Women and Children Development Foundation (CWCDF), in collaboration with the Development Exchange Centre (DEC) through the Small-Scale Project Fund (SSPF) with support from Brot für die Welt, has launched advocacy visits to promote access to clean water and sanitation in Bauchi State, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The three-day visits targeted the Bauchi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) and traditional leaders of Miri and Sohon Kampani communities, where the six-month Women-Led WASH Program is being implemented.

The initiative directly contributes to the achievement of SDG 6, which seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. It focuses on the repair of hand pump boreholes, training of WASH Committees (WASHCOMs), and strengthening the capacity of Local Area Mechanics (LAMs) through toolkits and technical support to guarantee long-term sustainability.

Stakeholders welcomed the program and pledged their commitment to partner with CWCDF and its collaborators to achieve inclusive and sustainable WASH services.

CWCDF noted that by empowering women and local structures to drive WASH interventions, the project also advances gender equality (SDG 5) while improving community resilience and well-being.
