By Amina Ahmed

A Kano-based dairy company, L&Z Integrated Farms Nigeria Limited, has inaugurated a milk collection center in the Adamami community of Shira Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The L&Z Integrated Farms is a privately owned firm focused on dairy production in Nigeria.

The collection activity would begin in earnest by the private company.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar, said the initiative aims to promote peace, enhance local security, and create employment opportunities for pastoralist communities in the region.

According to Abubakar, the project is part of the company’s shared value strategy designed to improve infrastructure and boost the livelihood of pastoralists.

“The dairy business in Nigeria requires more of such centers to meet the increasing demand for milk.

“The newly inaugurated center is projected to receive 2,000 liters of milk daily, and we intend to increase that figure over time.”he explained.

Abubakar added that the center would directly benefit the host community through infrastructure development, including the provision of solar-powered boreholes.

He also noted that women would be trained in vegetable farming to create alternative sources of income.

“We are present in Kano and Jigawa States, and our host communities benefit from our presence.

“We plan to empower women and improve their livelihoods alongside the dairy initiative.”

He warned the pastoralists against adulterating milk with water, stressing that modern equipment at the center would detect and separate impurities during weighing.

“Please desist from mixing water with the milk, Our machines will detect it immediately,” he warned.

Abubakar also pledged to provide training for pastoralists on modern dairy techniques and animal health management to boost production.

He said the training would coach the pastoralists on rearing animals at home.

In his remarks, Alhaji Babangida Maliya, Chairman of Shira Local Government Council, commended Miyyetti Allah for sensitizing pastoralists on the benefits of the new center.

He also disclosed that the council plans to ban girls and women from paid labor on farmlands.

According to him, this step is intended to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the area.

“We will soon propose the establishment of nomadic education centers to support the education of children in pastoral communities,” Maliya added.

Also speaking, Mr. Tagwi James, Director of the Federal Ministry of Livestock, Bauchi Office, stated that the Federal Government has invested in livestock programmes.

He called on the Bauchi State Government to support Federal initiatives aimed at empowering rural dwellers.

One of the women in the community who hawks dairy products, Mrs Hasiya Alhaji, confirmed that with the center, hawking in the area has ended.

She expressed eagerness to enrol their children in basic education. Mrs Fatima Dauda, expressed her delight at the inauguration, adding that the center has brought an end to water scarcity in the community.
