…advocates power rotation on Bauchi

Bauchi State Commissioner of Special Duties and Rural Development, Faruk Mustapha has been called upon to, as a matter of urgency, declare his interest in contesting for 2027 gubernatorial seat under any political platform.

The call was made by a non-political group, Kungiyan Matasan Arewa (Northern Youth Group), while addressing journalists on Wednesday, at the end of its consultative meeting in Bauchi.

The Chairman of the Group, Suleiman Doma, while speaking on the choice for 2027 gubernatorial race, appealed to Hon Faruk Mustapha to come out to aspire for the party ticket for the good of the people of the State.

According to the Chairman of the group said: "As you can see, we just finished our deliberations as a group and agreed to call on Hon Faruk Mustapha to please, declare interest to aspire for the gubernatorial seat come 2027. He deserves it because he can do it."

He stressed that, he is a youth and politician of substance, we believe that with him as the next Governor of Bauchi State, there will be more development, he will definitely build on what the present administration is doing because he is part of the system."

Suleiman Doma further stated that,"Though we have not contacted him about this, we are appealing to him to heed our calls to join the race. We assure that if his political party gives him the ticket, we will campaign vigorously for him to win the election."

He added that, "We need the youths to be at the helm of affairs in the next dispensation. That is our struggle and we will continue to push for it."

The Group also advocated for a power shift in the political scene of Bauchi State calling for rotation of the gubernatorial office effective for the 2027 general elections.

The Group which is operating under the Matasan Arewa Empowerment and Right Advancement Association (MAERA), opined that democracy is people oriented, therefore, rotation of the gubernatorial seat from one zone to the other is most appropriate.

The Group stressed that rotation will enable people to have a sense of political inclusion.

According to the group, since Bauchi state, just as other States has Three Senatorial Districts, the gubernatorial seat should rotate in the 2027 general direction in the spirit of fairness, justice and inclusion.

Chairman of the Group in bauchi State , Suleiman Doma stressed that, "We believe in power rotation, it is good for democracy as it affords each zone to be at the exalted office of the State Governor. We suggest that the gubernatorial seat should rotate from Bauchi South to Bauchi North and then to Bauchi Central. This is our submission."

After stressing that the group is non partisan, but engaged in empowering youths to be independent and self-employed, Doma said that,"It is our responsibility to educate and enlighten youths on political decisions and associations, particularly in the build up to the 2027 general elections."

According to him, "The group was formed in 2014 with branches in all the 19 Northern States. Here in Bauchi, we have offices in all of the 20 LGAs. We are mobilizing youths to become useful irrespective of ethno-religious or political affiliations."
