As part of efforts to complement the infrastructural drive of Gombe State governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Accountant General of Gombe State, Alhaji Aminu Umar Yuguda, has personally sponsored the rehabilitation of a part of a road near Gombe Old Market, along Emir’s Drive, within Gombe metropolis.
The damaged section, which had become notorious for its large potholes filled with stagnant, dirty water, posed serious hazards to both motorists and pedestrians - especially during the rainy season.
Our correspondent reports that the area, located opposite the Old Post Office, also serves as a critical U-turn and access route for traders and commuters into and out of the old market.
Due to its deteriorated condition and accident-prone nature, the site had become a growing concern for residents.
But the Accountant General brought succour by funding the repairs to prevent accidents and promote safety.
According to a sources close to the Accountant General, the gesture was done quietly and with sincerity, in line with his desire to complement Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s developmental agenda.
However, community members who witnessed the reconstruction insisted the effort should be acknowledged publicly, hoping it would inspire other well-meaning individuals to emulate the act of selfless service.
Residents have praised the intervention as a form of Sadaqatul Jariya (ongoing charity), which they believe not only brings immediate relief to the public but also holds eternal spiritual reward for the donor.
“This act by the Accountant General is commendable. It shows that everyone, no matter their position, can support the government and give back to society in meaningful ways,” a local trader at the market told our correspondent.
With increasing calls for public officials and affluent citizens to contribute directly to societal needs, this gesture by the Accountant General stands as a shining example of proactive leadership and civic responsibility.
