The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called for intensified efforts to improve immunization services and reduce zero dose areas across the state.
Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Mr. Lawal Dauda, made the call on Friday during a joint Community of Practice (CoP)–legislative oversight visit to selected health facilities in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
The exercise was supported by the African Health Budget Network (AHBN).
Dauda stressed the importance of border synchronization when planning immunization activities with neighbouring Jigawa and Gombe states.
He also urged stakeholders to provide motorcycles and logistics to local immunization supervisors, support community resource groups, and absorb trained volunteers who have been assisting service delivery statewide.
The lawmakers pledged to engage relevant authorities to address identified challenges.
Mr. Jinjiri Garba,CoP Co-Chairman, commended facility managers but highlighted the need to close remaining service gaps.
The team observed significant improvements in infrastructure and equipment, including an additional cold chain facility procured partly due to CoP advocacy.
They also noted improved service delivery across all primary health care components despite ongoing renovations at the Kafin Liman facility.
Dr. Hassan Musa, AHBN’s Bauchi State Focal Person, said the oversight was aimed at ensuring immunization financing accountability.
He acknowledged the Assembly’s support in approving and facilitating the release of the ₦872 million budgeted for the state’s 2025 immunization programme, conveying appreciation from AHBN National Coordinator, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba.
Earlier, Ganjuwa LGA Primary Health Care Director, Malam Ibrahim Adamu, led the visiting team to inspect solar-powered cold chain equipment, routine immunization record harmonization, financial management under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, sanitation, and the facility’s 2025 work plan.
Our Correspondent reports that the oversight team included House Committee Chairmen Mohammed Wanzam (Appropriation), Ahmed Maikudi (Food Security and Nutrition), and Garba Adamu (Ganjuwa West).
