Sen Musa Bawa berated for allegedly mocking Sen Kawu Sumaila over use of English

The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State in the 10th Assembly, Sani Musa Bawa has been berated for allegedly mocking, on the floor of the red chamber, his colleague representing Kano South Senatorial District, Senator Kawu Sumaila over use of English.

Reacting to the development, Shu’ayb Mustapha Kano, a political analyst, a writer and public commentator stated in a statement that, "We, the good people of Kano South Senatorial District did not elect Sen. Kawu Sumaila to go to the Senate and be speaking English that will have no positive bearing on the lives of the have-nots that form the better part of his constituents.

"In terms of having the mastery of English language, I can unabashedly say that Senator Kawu Sumaila is zillion times better than Senator Sani Musa Bawa because, whenever Kawu Sumaila speaks English, you hardly find him wanting in phonology unlike Sani Musa who speaks English the way he speaks his Gwari mother tongue which has no syntax and sounds system.

He stressed that,"I was jiggered to the bone marrow when I heard the Senator who has been hobnobbing with his former political party, PDP to defenestrate highly influential people like Senator Kawu out of the APC because he sees their defection to APC as a humongous stumbling block and a major threat to his absurd and seemingly unrealizable dreams in the red chamber."

According to him, "We, the people of Kano South Senatorial District voted Senator Kawu Sumaila in, because we were confident that he would give us the best of representation just as he did when he represented Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency at the lower chamber for three uninterrupted terms."

He added that,"We don't care beans about his poor knowledge of phonology since he is grammatically knowledgeable enough to build flawless grammatical structures using the grammatical rules laid down by world reverred/renowned linguists."

"He has been able to present our problems on the floor of the Senate for remedy and as is his wont, he has always done that for us in his capacity as Lawmaker. Out of satisfaction, we will pay kindness with kindness by voting for Senator Kawu Sumaila again come 2027 if Allah spares our lives," he added.

According to him, "No one will agree with Senator Sani Musa Bawa that Senator Kawu Sumaila isn't conversant with English language, because, had Senator Kawu not had the required mastery of English language, he wouldn't have achieved his lengthy list of achievements as a politician.

"This is including being one of the outspoken Federal Lawmakers who put the pressure on former President Olusegun Obasanjo's unbridled third term agenda/ambition in the dying days of his last tenure of office in 2007 which saved our nascent democracy from hitting the buffers at infancy."

Shu’ayb Mustapha Kano, added that,"I am as sure, had Senator Kawu Sumaila and his like-minded Lawmakers in the Green Chamber in those days not put their lives on stake to make sure former President Olusegun Obasanjo's third term ambition did not see the light of the day, Senator Sani Musa would still have been with his employer; Zenith Bank dealing with figures having studied Business Administration and not English Linguistics."

He concluded,"So, you can see that without the efforts put in place by the Kawus in the then National Assembly, Sani Musa would never have known the road to the National Assembly."

Recall that a video clip emerged in which Sen. Sani Musa stood on the floor of the Red Chamber and took a swipe at Senator Kawu Sumaila for mispronouncing a particular English word while fielding questions from a journalist at Channels TV a fortnight ago.
