A seasoned media consultant and public Affairs analyst, Dr. Abdulrahman Sade has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission ICPC to be cautious on petitions and call for prove by individuals and organisations and ensure professionalism in the way they issue statement against people that serve the country with patriotism so as not to damage the reputations of patriotic Nigerians with good records of stewardship in the service of the Country.
Sade made the plea in a press statement on Wednesday in Bauchi, saying it's not fair not in the interest of justice “the deliberate plan by some desperate Nigerians who wants to tarnish the image of Mele Kyari former Group Managing Director of NNPCL” and some officials who served together.
He said the way the statement was issued by the EFCC led to negative widespread and false reactions against the intention of the commission to probe some NNPCL Management Staff.
“We must as a people implore the EFCC, the ICPC and the other investigative agencies to ‘shine their eyes’ and resist any attempt to be used as cannon fodders for falsehood, deceit, blackmail and lies by unpatriotic people. Because the lies won’t stick”.
He said Kyari and his team as respected Nigerians if EFCC want to investigate his tenure they should do it diligently and professionally and as he said personally he is ready to account for his tenure and answer all questions during his tenure.
Analyst said many times anti graft agencies and some organisations act on
misinformation to a misleading statement
against people of honesty because of personal hatred or envy from self centred individuals.
Sade said these people are always haste to spread misinformation, misleading statements and lacking in facts just to cause confusion and spread mistrust and hatred against respected persons.
He said I am not against the probe of Kyari and other NNPCL management but it should be with understanding of the strategic intents and works of the NNPC as a limited liability company. Since it was established by law.
The anti graft agencies should act professionally and consult widely to determine “Wether Kyari acted within the scope of his responsibilities and in accordance with due process, under the leadership of Mele Kyari.
Since Kyari is ready to explain his tenure EFCC should have allowed his to so so to avoid admissible errors and omissions, before they go to press with a release immediately he left office this is not fair.
Sade said it's a known facts that Kyari’s leadership during his time at NNPCL, his role in the transformation of the organisation, the unbundling of the company, the return to profitability, and efforts to revive Nigeria’s long-dormant refineries.
“Its on record that Mele Kyari, with accumulated years of professional expertise, also supervised and coordinated transformation efforts that led to the take-off of local refining, including giving all support thereto.
“The revival of Nigeria’s decades-long moribund local public refineries is all traceable to his selfless and professional wit. That record cannot be twisted."
"Nigerians celebrate the fact that under Kyari, Nigeria battled oil theft to a standstill, moving crude production from less than one million barrels per day to about 2 million barrels per day."
Analyst explained that all anti graft agencies will claimed that the investigation was intended to promote accountability and transparency in public office.
Some may said that initiating a probe or inquiry should not be seen as an indictment, but rather as a constructive process that allows public officials to explain their stewardship—a healthy exercise in democratic governance, or it’s essential to promote accountability and transparency in public office, and it’s a healthy exercise in good governance.
He said, “Whereas accountability is the watchword of public service, I am an advocate of justice and accountability not condoning corruption but simply acknowledging that an incorruptible man should not be targeted wrongly, because justice is for all including the accused and the complainant.
"Is good for Nigerians to always do the right thing, stressing that for the country to progress, the citizens must do things right thing including anti graft agencies "
So that self centred people will not hide behind their back and spread false rumours and hatred against patriotic and respected Nigerians who deserve to be honoured rather than condemnations.”
