The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters Special Operations Command in Bauchi has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing young football talents in the neighbouring Kuhu community of Bauchi Local Government Area, through structured training, provision of kits, and sustained mentorship.
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Special Operations Command, made this known during a symbolic presentation of a football to the youth team at the weekend in Kuhu community.
The AOC, represented by the Chief of Staff of the Command, AVM Abdullahi Bello, noted that the gesture is part of the NAF’s effort to promote youth development and community engagement.
“They are our neighbours, and as such, we must encourage them to raise a formidable team that would make the community and the NAF proud,” he said.
The initiative was inspired by Air Commodore Adedoyin Oyenusi, Commander of the 261 Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital, who discovered the team after observing the boys playing with a self-made football constructed from gathered nylons.
“I was amazed by their creativity and determination.
“They may be the Ronaldos of tomorrow, not just for Kuhu or Bauchi, but for Nigeria as a whole. We’ve started by providing a proper football, a coach, and kits to set them on the right path,”said Oyenusi.
He said the initiative is expected to not only boost the morale of the young players but also promote positive youth engagement and community solidarity.
In response, the team’s captain, Master Gambo Yunusa, expressed deep gratitude for the intervention.
“We never dreamt of this kind of support. We believe this is God’s plan for us, and with this encouragement, we are determined to go places,” he said with optimism.
