Bauchi Lawmaker advocates for creation of district

By Ahmed Ahmed

Mr Dayyabu Ladan Mohammed, representing Ganjuwa East Constituency, Bauchi State House of Assembly, urged the state government to establish a district in his constituency under the Bauchi Emirate Council.

Presenting the motion during a session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, the lawmaker emphasized the historical and administrative significance of Ganjuwa East.

He noted that the constituency was created during Nigeria’s First Republic under the administration of the late President Shehu Shagari and the late Governor Abubakar Tatari Ali.

Dayyabu highlighted that out of the 31 state constituencies in Bauchi, Ganjuwa East remains the only one without a district.

He argued that the area has the historical, cultural, demographic, and economic qualifications necessary for district status.

“The creation of a district in Ganjuwa East will bring governance closer to the people, strengthen traditional institutions, and promote peace, unity, and development,” he stated.

He called on the relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to initiate all required administrative, legal, and logistical procedures to formalize the establishment of the district.

In a related development, Builder Sa’idu Sulaiman Darazo, representing Darazo Constituency, raised a motion under matters of urgent public importance, appealing for immediate relief for victims of a recent windstorm that struck Unguwar Gabas, on the outskirts of Darazo town.

According to him, the storm destroyed over 50 houses, leaving many families displaced and seeking refuge in neighboring communities.

He urged the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the extent of the damage and provide relief materials and temporary shelter to the affected residents.

However , the Speaker Sulaiman directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolutions to the executive arm of government for prompt intervention.
