Gov. Yusuf worries over revenue leakages, freezes govt accounts

By Editor

Worried by the large scale revenue leakages and financial crimes within the government setting, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Wednesday directed immediate closure of all accounts linked to Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state.

Yusuf, issued the directive during interactive session with managers of the state internal revenue service, at the government house where he raised issues of transparency deficit and lack of prudent in management of public revenue.

Yusuf cited cases of inefficiency in the manual management of MDAs' accounts, which gave rise to multiple expenditures and financial irregularities.

He noted that the sharp practices in the revenue generation has brought the state backward among neighboring states, saying while Kaduna state is accounting for over N10 billion, Kano with all economic viability was nagging with N1. 6 billion.

He emphasized that relying solely on Federal government monthly consolidated revenue is not only enough to pay salaries, fund projects, and infrastructure, stressing the readiness of his administration to strengthen the internal revenue generation.

He said decisive action would be activated on his promises on transparency, zero tolerance on corruption, and repositioning ideas for ultimate revenue generation and growth in revenue, and adoption of central billing.

The Governor henceforth directed all MDAs to comply with the revenue harmonisation law act 2024, and warned that commissioners, permanent secretaries, and the Head of Service would be held responsible for non-compliance.

On his part, Chairman, Kano state Public Complaint and Anti corruption Commission, also raised concern over the level of corruption hit deep in the MDA's.

He said the commission is already beaming it's search light to flush out bad heads. The state anti-graft is presently investigating diversion of over N660 million fund in the ministry of water resources and multiple million naira drug supply claim in the ministry of local government.
