Police nab Army impersonator in Bauchi

By Khalid Idris Doya

The Operatives of Bauchi Police have arrested a 30-year-old man, Aminu Mohammed from Magaji Quarters, Bauchi, for allegedly impersonating Nigerian Army personnel for two years.

A statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday, said such an act violates sections 110(1) and 251 of the criminal code.

Aminu was apprehended by operatives of Tafawa Balewa housing estate Divisional Police Headquarters (C) Division on July 22, 2024, after a complaint was filed against him.

Statement also revealed that the suspect A minu Muhammad collected the sum of two hundred and ten thousand naira (N210,000.00) from an unsuspecting individual under the false representation of assisting in securing a job with the Nigerian Army.

According to Wakil, "The suspect deceitfully directed his victim to meet his friend (who is currently at large) to facilitate his entry into the military training school in Zaria.

"However, after spending eight days in Zaria, the victim could not meet the individual who was supposed to take him to the training school."

Police preliminary investigations have shown that the culprit had never served or worked with the military before his arrest.

Wakil, however, added that (Aminu) had obtained a pair of camouflage trousers from his friend, who is serving military personnel.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed has ordered the transfer of the case for a discreet investigation at the state criminal investigation department to uncover more facts that will aid in prosecution.
