Bauchi begins distribution of fresh palliative

By Bashir Hassan Abubakar

The Bauchi State Government through the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has commenced the distribution of another segment of food palliative across the 20 LGAs of the State.

CORRESPONDENTS' WATCHER observed in Alkaleri and Kirrfi LGAs where the distribution started on Sunday 28th. 1000 bags of assorted grains each were handed over to the local government distribution committees for onward distribution to the poorest of the poor and other vulnerable groups.

In a remark shortly before handing over the food items, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu called for equitable and fair distribution of the food items to the most deserving target beneficiaries inline with the guidelines provided by both the Federal and State governments.

Represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources of the Ministry, Ahmed Haruna, the Commissioner said that the Ministry had put in place an independent monitoring mechanism within the communities to monitor compliance in the distribution exercise.

The Commissioner informed the LG’s administration that Governor Bala Mohammed is particular about having the palliative reached the intended target and called on the need for the distribution committee to be just and fair in the exercise.

“Your assignment as distribution committee is an assignment of trust. So, ensure that you keep that trust and do your best in justifying the confidence reposed on you,” said the Commissioner.

While receiving the items on behalf of LG distribution committee, the Heads of Administration in Alkaleri and Kirfi LGAs both assured the Commissioner that the committee will ensure equitable distribution of the food items meant for the most needy in their respective communities.

Our correspondent reported that both Alkaleri and Kirfi got 1000 bags of assorted grains each. It includes 500 bags of rice, 210 bags of maize, 220 and 70 bags of sorghum and millets in each LGA. The distribution exercise is being carried out simultaneously across the 20 LGAs of the State.
