Bauchi establishes more malnutrition treatment centers

In its effort to curb the menace of malnutrition cases among children aged between 06-23 months, the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has established an additional center at Kofa Ran facility. 

The facility In-charge of Kofa Ran Primary Healthcare Centre, Fatima Jafaru told our reporter who monitored the increasing level of the disease in Bauchi. She said that the center, after the commencement of malnutrition treatment, has been receiving not less than 100 cases of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in underage children. 

According to her, the establishment of the center is reducing cases of children suffering from malnutrition and its treatment and improving wellbeing of the nursing mothers and children. 

“Before now we used to transferred cases of malnutrition to General Hospital Kafin Madaki, but now with this development we can now handle all cases of
malnutrition related to children and adults here.

"The inclusion of the center would definitely motivate the staff to work hard in rendering services to the people, especially those with malnutrition cases and nursing mothers. We have the manpower and modern equipment to deliver,” she said.

The facility In-charge commended the BPHCDA for selecting the facility as one of the centers in the state, pledged that the management and staff would not disappoint the effort of present administration towards tackling the menace in the state. 

It is estimated that nearly 4.4 million children aged 0–59 months are suffering and will likely continue to suffer from acute malnutrition in the period of May 2023–April 2024 in Northwest and Northeast Nigeria. This includes 1.04 million cases of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and 3.37 million cases of Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) respectively, according to Doctors Without Borders.
