Eagle Eye Watch News, EEWN, has lined up series of activities to mark 20 years of operation, with a renewed pledge to invest more in investigative journalism and expand its digital operations.
Speaking at a press conference at the EEWN Regional Office in Jos, on Wednesday, management said the anniversary was a recommitment to unbiased, fearless and community-centered reporting despite economic challenges, digital disruption and security issues in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
“As we herald these activities, we re-dedicate ourselves to the core values of our profession. We will invest more in investigative journalism, expand our digital footprint, and continue to give voice to the voiceless,” management said.
“Today marks exactly two decades since we set out on an ambitious journey to change the media landscape. We thank God and our loyal readers across Nigeria for making this 20-year milestone possible. Through it all, our commitment to truth has never wavered. We remain a trusted shield against misinformation.”
The anniversary is themed: “Two Decades of Truth: Navigating Digital Media Frontiers and Community Journalism for National Development.”
Management said the theme reflects the organization’s history and its vision for the future.
To mark the milestone, EEWN has lined up a four-week programme of activities. They include student mentorship to inspire the next generation of journalists, a media roundtable, and a workshop for selected journalists on investigative reporting, election coverage and combating fake news.
Other events include an anniversary lecture and awards night featuring prominent guest speakers on national security and free speech. The organization will also honor individuals who have contributed to societal growth.
A thanksgiving service will close the activities in appreciation of “two decades of protection and corporate growth.”
EEWN expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Publishers Forum, advertisers and readers for their support over the years.
“The eagle has taken flight, and we are ready for the next twenty years,” management added.
