Bauchi commissioner killed in road crash




The Bauchi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmed Aliyu Jalam popularly known as Maikankana has died in a road crash accident that occurred on Misau–Darazo road on Saturday, 1st of June.


A statement by Media Advisor to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, early hours of Sunday, said that he died as a result of a ghastly motor accident.


Gidado said that the tragic accident occurred on Misau - Darazo highway leading to his immediate death.


He described Jalam as a dedicated public servant, whose commitment to the development and well-being of his local communities was unwavering. “During his lifetime, he championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving good governance and community relations.


“Late Ahmed Jalam was known for his tireless work, integrity, and compassion for the people he served and his service will be remembered and cherished by all.


“His demise is deeply felt by His Excellency Governor Bala Mohammed, his cabinet colleagues, friends, family, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched during his lifetime.”


He added that “Governor Bala Mohammed on behalf of his family, government and the good people of Bauchi State extends his deepest condolences to the members of his immediate family and the entire people of the State and prayed that the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanna Firdaus.”


The deceased was appointed in 2019 as commissioner of religious Affairs and orientation before redeployed water resources and later ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs in Governor's second term.


Late Jalam will be buried on Sunday 2nd June, 2024 in his hometown, Jalam, Dambam local Government Area of Bauchi State at 11:00am.
