LG poll: Bala Mohammed says opposition parties jittery of APM popularity

By Nasir Shuaibu

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed confidence that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will emerge victorious in Monday’s local government elections across the state.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in 008 Bakin Dutse, Dan Kungibar ward, in Alkaleri local government area of the state, Mohammed described the election as a testing ground for the APM, which is participating in the poll for the first time.

The governor also criticised some political parties and candidates for allegedly withdrawing from the electoral contest after realising they could not defeat the ruling party.

He said political parties should test their popularity among the people rather than depend on external influence to win elections.

Mohammed argued that the current administration at the federal level had demonstrated commitment to democratic principles, stressing that elections should be decided by voters rather than imposed by individuals.

“People should know that there is no person that is going to install them. There is no monarchy. It is democratic governance,” he said.

He, however, congratulated all political parties that participated in the election, assuring that the state government would provide a level playing field for all contestants.

The governor said his administration remained committed to allowing residents to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely.

He added that the APM was prepared for the outcome of the election, expressing optimism that the party’s candidates would secure victory across the state.
