The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the names and personal particulars of Senator Shehu Buba Umar as the governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State for the 2027 general election.
The commission also published the name of his running mate, as well as the party's candidates for the Bauchi State House of Assembly election.
The publication, made pursuant to Section 29(3) of the 2026 Electoral Act, has effectively laid to rest the controversy surrounding the authenticity of the PRP governorship ticket and the candidacies of the party's deputy governorship and State Assembly candidates in the state.
Reacting to the development, Senator Shehu Buba Umar described the publication as a significant milestone for the PRP and its supporters, saying the confirmation by INEC had provided clarity and certainty ahead of the 2027 elections.
"Praise be to Allah. The issue surrounding the authenticity of my candidature, that of my deputy and the PRP candidates for the State House of Assembly has now been put to rest," he said.
Shehu Buba called on members and supporters of the party, as well as other stakeholders, to remain united and focused on issues affecting the people of Bauchi State.
He said the PRP would base its campaign on issues, democratic principles and its commitment to providing an alternative political platform for the people of the state.
The governorship candidate reiterated his commitment to pursuing a people-oriented development agenda if elected governor in 2027.
He said his administration would prioritise technology-driven education, revitalisation of the health sector, job creation and the establishment of a business-friendly environment that would provide greater opportunities for youths and women.
On agriculture, Shehu Buba pledged to transform the sector into a commercially viable industry capable of creating wealth, generating employment and improving food security across the state.
He also promised to develop practical community-policing strategies and strengthen collaboration between security agencies and local communities to address insecurity.
According to him, the proposed agenda would be anchored on inclusive governance, accountability, transparency and equitable development, with government policies designed to reflect the needs and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
The PRP candidate congratulated other governorship candidates and contestants across the various political parties, urging them to conduct their campaigns peacefully and in compliance with the law.
He also appealed to the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians to support a peaceful electoral process, stressing that political competition should be based on ideas, programmes and leadership capacity rather than division and personal attacks.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Comrade Sabo Mohammed, Shehu Buba made the remarks in Kano on Saturday while discussing political and campaign-related matters with his appointees, including Senior Legislative Aides, Legislative Aides, media aides and close political associates.
The meeting was also attended by prominent former APC stakeholders who recently defected to the PRP in support of Shehu Buba’s 2027 governorship ambition.
Those in attendance included the immediate past Organising Secretary and State Secretary of the APC, as well as other former party executives and political stakeholders.
Sabo added that the publication of the PRP candidates by INEC is expected to boost the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State and provide greater certainty for its candidates and supporters as political activities intensify.
Shehu Buba said the PRP remained committed to offering an alternative political platform focused on development, inclusion, economic opportunities, security and responsive governance for the people of Bauchi State.
