The Bauchi State Judiciary has inaugurated election tribunals to handle petitions and disputes that may emerge from the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for August 17, 2026.
The state Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, inaugurated the Local Government Election Tribunals and Appeal Tribunal on Wednesday at the State High Court premises in Bauchi.
Other judicial bodies inaugurated included Family Court 1 at the Magistrate level and the Right of Way Mobile Court.
While congratulating the newly appointed members, Justice Rabi said their selection was based on their competence, integrity and commitment to the administration of justice.
She reminded them that the responsibility before them was significant, particularly because their decisions could affect public confidence in the electoral process.
The Chief Judge urged the tribunal members to remain neutral and ensure that cases were decided without fear, favour, affection or ill-will.
She further instructed them to treat all political parties equally and resist attempts by individuals or groups to influence proceedings.
According to her, every matter must be determined on the basis of evidence presented and the applicable law.
Justice Rabi said the judiciary remained an important pillar of democracy, stressing that the credibility of the electoral process was partly dependent on the impartial resolution of disputes.
She equally charged members of the Family Court and Right of Way Mobile Court to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, fairness and professionalism.
The Bauchi South Tribunal and Special Court will operate from the State High Court premises in Bauchi, while the Bauchi North Tribunal and Special Court will sit at the High Court premises in Azare.
The Magistrate Court premises in Ningi will host the Central Zone Tribunal and Special Court.
