Teenager Arrested Over Alleged Drowning of 17-Year-Old

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged drowning of a teenager in Kari Village, Darazo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which occurred on May 24, 2026, is being investigated as a case of suspected culpable homicide.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the police received a report at about 4:15 p.m. that one Abdullahi Muhammad, 17, drowned in the Kari River under suspicious circumstances allegedly involving one Aisanu Nura, also 18 years old, both residents of Kari Village.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly lured the deceased to the river before drowning him.

Operatives attached to the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters reportedly responded swiftly to the scene, arrested the suspect, and commenced preliminary investigation into the matter.

The police said the body of the deceased had yet to be recovered as search efforts continued.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet and thorough investigation,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that a professional and diligent investigation be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He assured members of the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law and that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.

The Command also called on parents and guardians to intensify supervision of teenagers and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
