NDC Affirms Ibrahim Kashim As Bauchi Governorship Candidate For 2027 Polls

By Khalid Idris Doya

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially affirmed the immediate past Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Barr. Ibrahim Kashim Muhammad, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.

The affirmation was announced on Friday, May 29, 2026, by Paul Daniel, Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the party's governorship primary in Bauchi State, who said Kashim emerged through a consensus arrangement.

In his acceptance speech, Barr. Ibrahim Kashim expressed gratitude to the party leadership, delegates, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing the nomination as a collective responsibility to the people of Bauchi State.

"This honour is not mine alone, it belongs to every young person searching for opportunity, every farmer striving to make a living, every mother hoping for a better future for her children, and every community yearning for development," he said.

He noted that Bauchi State is richly endowed, from the fertile lands of Katagum to the communities in Bauchi Central and the resilient people of Bauchi South, adding that the state has the potential to thrive if properly harnessed.

However, he lamented persistent challenges affecting citizens across the state, including unemployment, poverty, weak infrastructure, and underperforming public services.

"Our youths are eager to work but lack opportunities. Our farmers work hard but earn too little. Our schools exist, but many do not equip our children for the future," he said, adding that the current situation does not reflect the Bauchi people deserve.

Kashim pledged that if elected, his administration under the NDC would focus on building a united, inclusive, and prosperous Bauchi State driven by people-centered policies.

He promised major reforms in education, including improved teacher training, modern learning systems, and strengthened technical and vocational education to prepare students for global competitiveness.

On healthcare, he stressed that access to quality medical services is a right, not a privilege, pledging to strengthen primary healthcare, improve drug availability, and reduce preventable deaths, especially among mothers and children.

He also described Bauchi as an agricultural hub with untapped potential, promising to support farmers with inputs, financing, storage facilities, and better market access, while promoting agro-processing and rural enterprise development.

"Our goal is simple: from subsistence to prosperity," he said, adding that small businesses, artisans, and entrepreneurs would receive strong support to stimulate grassroots economic growth.

Kashim further emphasised youth and women empowerment, pledging investments in skills development, digital opportunities, entrepreneurship, and expanded access to finance and leadership roles.

He also promised balanced development across rural and urban communities through rural road construction, improved water supply, and sustainable energy solutions.

"Development must not stop in the cities. Every community matters," he said.

Reaffirming his leadership philosophy, Kashim vowed to govern with fairness, accountability, and transparency, warning against exclusion and divisive politics.

The NDC flagbearer, who served as Secretary to the Bauchi State Government under the administration of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed until his resignation in December 2024, said his political journey remains rooted in service to the people.
