Bala Mohammed picks APM senate nomination form

By Rauf Oyewole

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has purchased a nomination and expression of interest form to contest Bauchi South Senatorial seat under the platform of Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Mohammed defected to APM on May 2, citing a long-standing crisis in his political party –PDP. He moved to the party with his structure from ward to the state levels.

He became the only governor in the party, pledging to produce his successor and win the Bauchi South district where he had previously served.

Mohammed in a statement on his X handle, after attending the party’s National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday, said that “I officially picked up my nomination form to contest for the Senate seat representing Bauchi South Senatorial District under the platform of the APM ahead of the forthcoming elections.”

The meeting was presided by the party’s National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, alongside key stakeholders and members of the party leadership.

The governor said that the meeting focused on critical national and party matters and also provided him the opportunity to formally familiarise himself with members of the party’s leadership structure following his recent defection to the party.

“Speaking at the session, I stated that the current political landscape in Nigeria has become increasingly challenged by undemocratic practices and political intimidation, making genuine political participation and survival difficult for many progressive leaders and movements.

“I explained that after wide consultations with political associates, stakeholders, and supporters across the country, the APM emerged as the political platform that best aligns with our collective vision and aspirations.

“I noted that the APM shares common values with my political philosophy, particularly in the areas of good governance, internal democracy, justice, inclusiveness, and respect for the rule of law. I further emphasised that our decision to join the party was driven by conviction and the desire to contribute meaningfully to building a stronger democratic culture in Nigeria.”
