The Gombe Network of Civil Society (GONET), an umbrella body of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the state has condemned in strongest terms the brutal assault on a serving councillor by the driver of the Chief of Staff to the governor, Abubakar Kari which occurred on the streets of Gombe metropolis and went viral on social media platforms.
GONET in a press release on Saturday by its chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf, described the attack on the elected political figure as "barbaric, unconscionable, and a grave violation of human rights and dignity".
The organisation demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
"We urge the relevant authorities to swiftly apprehend, prosecute, and bring the perpetrators to justice, ensuring they face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
"GONET reaffirms its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, tranquility, and the rule of law in Gombe State.
"We will continue to speak out forcefully against any act that undermines human rights, dignity, or integrity, holding all actors accountable without exception", the statement partly reads.
