By Najib Sani, Gombe

‎The Gombe Network of Civil Society (GONET), an umbrella body of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the state has condemned in strongest terms the brutal assault on a serving councillor by the driver of the Chief of Staff to the governor, Abubakar Kari which occurred on the streets of Gombe metropolis and went viral on social media platforms.

‎GONET in a press release on Saturday by its chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf, described the attack on the elected political figure as "barbaric, unconscionable, and a grave violation of human rights and dignity".

‎The organisation demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

‎"We urge the relevant authorities to swiftly apprehend, prosecute, and bring the perpetrators to justice, ensuring they face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

‎"GONET reaffirms its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, tranquility, and the rule of law in Gombe State.

‎"We will continue to speak out forcefully against any act that undermines human rights, dignity, or integrity, holding all actors accountable without exception", the statement partly reads.
