A support group, Professor Pate Grassroots Movement has embarked on ward-to-ward mobilisation for the Minister against the 2027 Bauchi State governorship ambition.
The Convener of the Movement, Nazeef Sa’id Wambai, during a consultation meeting with the residents of Makama Sarkin Baki Ward said that there was a need for active participation in politics and electoral matters henceforth for grassroot people to decide the the kind of leadership they want.
He said that the rural dwellers mostly need social amenities like security, school, hospital, water, good roads and agricultural inputs not minding the desperation to own a mansion and exotic vehicles.
“We are into this Movement to enlighten the people of their rights and how to demand for their rights and be part of the decision making process regarding their well-being. We have women and youth groups, traders and artisans who have poured out the challenges facing their community.
“They told us that there is no single primary healthcare center in the whole of this ward. This is one of the biggest wards in the whole of Bauchi State. It means they have to travel to other places to access primary care. We need to engage the relevant agencies to table that.”
One of the residents of the area, Jamilu Aminu Gali, expressed gratitude to the Movement to enlighten them of their own age-long suffering, according to him, it has been normalised that they have to transport their pregnant women on either tricycle or car to far away communities for care.
“I want to say first that we need education, jobs and health care services around us. And we give thanks to the Professor Pate Grassroots Movement for waking us up to know what we need to ask for going to 2027.”
Earlier, Wambai explained that Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, as an accomplished health expert and two term minister who he said to be passionate about the welfare of his people, has turned around the health sector of the country. He urged massive support for him when he declares to contest the Bauchi governorship seat.
