Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for greater collaboration and partnership investment in developing the Nation through investment in local content. Obasanjo also tasked leadership in redirecting the investment proceeds to the people.
Speaking at the two-day Bauchi Investment Summit on Wednesday, the former President said that investment discussion must bring everyone together to chart a prosperous path to development. According to Obasanjo, there are three key development indicators –Politics, People and Protection.
“If we get the Politics (governance) right, the next thing is people because everything we do in governance is about the people. Everything should be for the benefit of the people. Another major thing is protection, you need stability and security because nobody wants to invest.”
He called for strong partnership across the levels of government to harness the potential of the Bauchi. He further urged the states in the region to partner, while Nigeria intensifies partnership with its neighbours and other international communities.
Obasanjo narrated how he entered partnership with Aliko Dangote to end cement importation and boost local production with initial 5million metric tonnes of cement.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima who represented the President, Bola Tinubu said that the Federal Government is creating an enabling environment for investors to thrive and drive investment in the country.
He said: “The Federal Government fixes each state as its priority beyond increased fiscal allocation that is accrued of which the states are now enjoying. This is because any affliction to any state slows down the growth and development in other parts of the nation. We must grow together.”
Shettima noted that Tinubu has removed termites from the Nation's timber of progress, saying that growth and development of a nation cannot be guaranteed without peace and stability. Shettima said that successive governments have always been confronted with push back while initiating reforms.
