Bauchi state government in partnership with the African Medical Center of Excellence AMCE has flagged off two days of community outreach for over 1,000 people of Liman Katagum communities.
The event which was held at Central Primary School in Liman Katagum, aimed to provide essential healthcare services to the people of Bauchi State, is part of the pre-summit activities preceding the Bauchi State Economic Summit.
While declaring the event opened, the deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau, represented by the Emir of Dass Alh Usman Bilyaminu Othman said that the outreach is a demonstration of the government's compassion and responsibility to provide access to essential healthcare services, particularly for those who cannot afford them.
Jatau emphasized the government's commitment to improving the health and well-being of Bauchi State citizens. He urged the citizens to take advantage of the opportunity and renew their commitment to preventive health practices, community support, and collective well-being.
He expressed gratitude to the healthcare workers, development partners, and sponsors who have made this initiative possible
Earlier, Managing Director, Bauchi State Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency, (DMMA) Pharmacy Abdulkadir Ahmed said the outreach is a collaboration between the government, healthcare workers, development partners, and sponsors African Medical Center of Excellence (AMCE).
According to him, the event is expected to benefit approximately 1,000 people and provide them with access to essential healthcare services.
He explained that the second day of the outreach will be dedicated to performing surgeries on patients identified during the event.
In his speech, the Chairman Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said the launch of the free medical outreach marks a significant step towards improving the health and well-being of Bauchi State citizens. The government's commitment to healthcare is evident in its investments in health infrastructure, human resources, and modern equipment.
He further explained that over 100 team of medical and supporting staff including 30 doctors and 10 surgeries from Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to attend to1000 people during the two days event.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director, Abdul Karim Garba Mangari said the two-day outreach will provide a range of healthcare services, including antenatal and child immunization, general medical consultations, nursing care, laboratory investigations, and pharmaceutical services.
In their separate remarks the district head of Bauchi and Zungur Alh Nura Adamu Jumba and Surveyor Ibrahim Jahun thanked the government and donor agencies for the gesture and called for support and corporations from the community to ensure a smooth process.
The event witnessed the official opening ceremony, a drama series, and monitoring of the registration and screening exercise in the company of the Emir of Dass and government officials.
Some of the people interviewed, such as Baba Musa Luda and Aishatu Ibrahim Gambo, explained that they had come to seek medical treatment for their long-standing ailments, suffering from high blood pressure and chronic ulcer diseases.
Our correspondent also observed that a high number of underaged children between the ages of 5 and 12 were seen in queue to undergo free tuberculosis testing among other illnesses.
