The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGO) in Gombe State has welcomed the signing of the bill for the establishment of new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state by Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
Chairman of ANGO, Bachama Yusuf, in a press conference expressed support for the new LCDAs saying their creation is a significant step towards decentralising power and promoting grassroots development.
He added that the initiative aligns with the state's development agenda, DEVAGOM 2021-2030, which aims to foster citizens' engagement and participation in driving development.
The association urged citizens to take ownership of the LCDAs, ensuring accountability and effective service delivery, particularly in priority sectors.
Yusuf emphasised the need to harness natural resources and emerging opportunities for revenue generation within the new LCDAs.
The ANGO chairman encouraged citizens, especially young people, women, and persons with disabilities, to engage with the LCDAs to ensure credible leaders are elected to deliver governance dividends with prudence, transparency, and accountability.
This is just as the association advocated for the creation of more local governments in the ongoing constitutional review process.
"We call our National Assembly members, our three senators and six members of House of Representatives, to leverage the ongoing Constitutional Review opportunity and galvanise the Local Government creation window to consolidate our newly created LCDAs for our collective good", he said.
