The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) at 61 aimed at deepening civil-military relations and showcasing its evolving capabilities in national security and community engagement.
The Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Special Operations Command, Bauchi Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, stated this at officially flagged off its 61st anniversary celebration with a “Open Day” initiative on Monday in Bauchi.
He reiterated NAF’s commitment to fostering transparency and strengthening ties with the public.
“This Open Day is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, national unity, and pride in service. We invite all Nigerians to come, see, and connect with their Air Force,” AVM Abdullahi said.
The AOC praised the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for his leadership and the strategic vision behind the initiative.
He assured Nigerians of the NAF's unwavering dedication to tackling the country’s security challenges.
The anniversary celebrations, themed “Come See Your Air Force,” include guided tours of facilities, aircraft exhibitions, interactive sessions with personnel, and outreach programmes in schools such as career talks and mentorship activities.
The Open Day events are scheduled to hold from May 1 to 15, 2025, across various NAF bases including those in Makurdi, Bauchi, Lagos, Kaduna, Maiduguri, and Kano, among others.
In a goodwill message, Gov Bala Mohammed,of Bauchi State represented by his Chief Security Adviser, Abdulrahman Ahmed, commended the NAF’s growth and effectiveness, particularly in countering banditry and insurgency.
He also called for greater surveillance along Bauchi’s borders with Plateau, Gombe, and Taraba States, while urging synergy with other security agencies to combat crime.
Highlights of the celebration in Bauchi included school children’s visitations, career guidance sessions, and interactive engagements with NAF units stationed at the base.
