Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC),has fixed 24th May 2025 for the by-election for the vacant seats of impeached Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Shira Local Government Council
It will be recalled that Councillors of Shira Local Government Council had impeached the Council Chairman Hon Abdullahi Beli and his Deputy, Adamu Bamaraya, for alleged mismanagement of public funds and lake of managerial capacity on 2nd of March 2025.
Addressing journalists Thursday in Bauchi, BASIEC Chairman Alhaji Ahmed Makama, said the Commission had received correspondent that a vacancy is been declared in the office of the chairman and deputy chairman of Shira LGA , "We duty bound to fill that vacancy required an election and that is why we are making adequate preparation to conduct by-election in that local government."
Makama said, "The Bauchi State Electoral Law 2008 clearly stipulated that where a vacancy exists in a local government, the State Independent Electoral Commission is given 14 days to fill-up that vacancy. We have to work within that 14 days. A by-election is going to be conducted in Shira Local Government Council. The ban on political campaign has been lifted in Shira LGA."
Makama further disclosed that the commission has also fixed the cost nomination form to N1 million for the chairmanship position, while the nomination form for the deputy chairman is N500, 000.
The chairman appeal to political parties to conduct their electioneering campaigns according to the stipulated laws and ensure a peaceful exercise throughout the period.
